There was a great amount of heat and dust on Knowledge Management(KM) in the late 1990s, especially in the production and service industries. Knowledge Management is a domain that represents managing institutional knowledge for improved productivity. The institutional knowledge is available in documentary and non-documentary forms.
Implementation of Knowledge Management involves different stakeholders, knowledge storage, processing and discovery system. Commissioning a KM system supports the information needs of a business, academic and socio-economic setup/organization. The complex structure of KM systems involves the contributions of professionals from IT and information professionals, management, law and commerce. Library and information professionals with experience in managing both the containers and the content of knowledge have a great deal of scope in the KM industry.
The overall objective of establishing KM Systems (KMS) is to improve productivity. The importance of KMS is realized from making complex decisions to day-to-day operating activities. However, they ought to improve the competencies in the areas of information technology, interpersonal relations and communication to handle the professional challenges from the professionals from management and IT. The proposed talk will provide insight into KM systems from the perspective of libraries and librarianship
