Famous Libraries of India
National Library of India
The National Library of India situated in Kolkata is the largest library in India by volume and India's library of public record.
It was established in the year 1836.
Delhi Public Library
It was started as a UNESCO project in the year 1951 by the Govt. of India.
The Library is also the 4th recipient library under the provision of Delivery of Books & Newspaper (Public Libraries) Act 1954.
Parliament Library
 
Parliament Library, one of the richest repositories of books in India,
IT was established in the year 1921 to assist members of the Indian Legislature. 
This is the largest library in Delhi and second largest library in India after the National Library.
Connemara Public Library
Established in 1890, 
It also serves as a depository library for the UN.
The Connemara Public Library in Chennai is one of the four National Depository Libraries, 
 Asiatic Society of Mumbai Library
Situated in a beautiful colonial building in Mumbai,
Established in 1804 and was founded by Sir James Mackintos
 Allahabad Public Library
The Allahabad Public Library also known as Thornhill Mayne Memorial is a public library situated at Alfred Park in Allahabad. Established in 1864.
it is the biggest library in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
The library has an approximate collection of 125,000 books, 40 types of magazines and 28 different newspapers in Hindi, English, Urdu and Bangla and contains 21 Arabic manuscripts.
It also has a collection of old government publications, parliamentary papers, and blue books of the 19th century, old manuscripts and journals.

 Saraswathi Mahal Library or 
Tanjore Maharaja Serfoji's Sarasvati Mahal Library, Tamil Nadu:
It is housed within the campus of Thanjavur Palace and had started as a royal library for the Nayak Kings of Thanjavur
It has a rare collection of palm leaf manuscript in various regional languages of India
It came under the possession of the state of Tamil Nadu in the year 1918.
State Central Library of Hyderabad
The State Central Library Hyderabad is a public library in Telangana.
earlier known as Asafia Library, 
The building was constructed in 1891.
The foundation stone was laid in January 1932 by Prince Mir Osman Ali Khan.
 David Sassoon Library
Located in the heart of Mumbai, 
The David Sassoon Library was completed in 1870.
State Central Library, Thiruvananthapuram
State Central Library of Kerala is also known as Trivandrum Public Library is the first public Library in India. 
The Library was established in the year A.D. 1829
it houses various collections such as a Malayalam section, a reprographic section, a digital library, a children’s library, etc.
Rampur Raza Library
Built in 1904 as part of a palace in Rampur, 
The Raza Library contains printed works in Sanskrit, Hindi, Urdu, Pashto (having the original manuscript of the first translation of the Qur'an in addition to other important books/documents), Tamil and Turkish, 
Nehru Memorial Museum And Library
Located in: Teen Murti House , New Delhi.

Founded: 1964.
Designed by Robert Tor Russell, the British architect of Connaught Place and of the Eastern and Western Courts on Janpath 
Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Library
located in Patna, Bihar
It was opened to public on 29 October 1891 by Khan Bahadur Khuda Bakhsh
It is also a designated 'Manuscript Conservation Centre' (MCC) under the National Mission for Manuscripts.
It is an autonomous organization under Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and is governed by a Board with the Governor of Bihar 
Sayaji Rao Gaekwad Library
also known as the Central Library, of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi,
Established in 1917, 
it is listed in the Survey of Manuscripts in India.
It is also a designated 'Manuscript Conservation Centre (MCC) under the National Mission for Manuscripts established in 2003.
Maulana Azad Library
 
The Maulana Azad Library is the central library of Aligarh Muslim University in Aligarh, India.
It is the largest university library in Asia.
Gowthami Grandhalayam
Gowthami Grandhalayam or Sri Gowthami Regional Library was started by poet and social reformer Nalam Krishna Rao in 1898.
Located in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh.
After the Tanjavur library in Tamil Nadu, the biggest in the region is Sri Gowthami Regional Library.
At present[when?] the library is having 1.03 lakh books, including 71,130 of Telugu, 21,974 of English, 7,967 of Hindi, 372 Urdu books, 667 other books, 411 palm leaf manuscripts, six copper plates and 40 unpublished manuscripts.
Sinha Library
 
The library was established in 1924 by Dr. Sachchidananda Sinha, chief justice of Patna High Court.
This library has over 1.8 lakh books.
Dr. Sinha had donated his collection of around 50,000 rare books, bearing his autograph — including copies of Manu Smriti, Sacred Books of the East edited by F Max Muller, Koran, Buddhist suttas, a copy of original Indian Constitution,
