Title: Succeeding in the World of Special Librarianship: What is the Future of the Special Librarian?
Abstract: As past SLA president, Donna Scheeder, noted, "Change is Our Tradition."   What do you think?  Our speaker will share what's happened, what's happening, and strategies for success in the post-Covid-19 years based on his 2018 book, "Succeeding in the World of Special Librarianship."  There are exciting trends in technology and other shifts happening in the world of business, research, and socio-economically.
Insightful, provocative, divisive, and challenging, Stephen Abram will share his perspective on the Library of the Future and the Future of Libraries. Widely known as a futurist and strategic thinker, Stephen is able to bring to the forefront the central aspects of the topic. He has written and spoken broadly on futures topics and is known for his in-depth, data-backed, statistical presentations posed in an engaging style.
Jill Strand and Abby Walters
Title: Research Optimization: Evaluation Process Improvement for Strategic Resource Purchases
Abstract: It starts with a free trial, a cold-call or quick demo at a conference and the next thing you know, management has announced that your organization is buying a new research database or enterprise system. Good beginning or a red flag?  A standard process to identify, scope, compare, evaluate, test, and rollout resources can help reduce risks associated with bad implementations but establishing and enforcing that process can be challenging. This discussion will explore best practices for managing resource evaluations and present ideas to help ensure that every purchase decision is the best one for your organization.
